AETIOLOGY

Predisposing factors

Foggy and dusty atmosphere, cold and damp surrounding, chronic mouth breathing and smoking.
Predisposing diseases
Whooping cough, Common cold, Measles, Influenza, etc.

CLINIAL FEATURES

  1. Irritating cough without expectoration.
  2. Sometimes mucoid or mucopurulent sputum.
  3. Fever is not a constant feature and dyspnoea may develop when there is pre-existent chronic bronchitis or disease.
  4. SINGS
  5. On examination of the chest, vesicular breath sound, sonorous rhonchi and diffuse crepitations are present over both lung fields.
    PROGNOSIS
    Bad in extremes of age or when it occurs at the height of some other diseases.
    TREATMENT
    Rest in bed. Steam inhalation and antibiotics are beneficial.
