CAUSES OF PARALYSIS

Compression of the nerve occurs at its exit from the pelvis, during its course under the inguinal ligament or through the fascia lata of the thigh.

CLINICAL FEATURES

Age Middle age.

Sex Both.

Symptoms of pain, tingling, numbness and paraesthesia along the cutaneous distribution of the nerve, may be present which is called meralgia paraesthetica. These symptoms may be produced during walking and may cause intermittent claudication simulating ischaemic limb pain. Sensory loss may be limited to the outer side of the thigh.

TREATMENT

Weight reduction in obese individuals may help. Surgical decompression may also be done. The underlying cause can be treated as far as practicable.
